Carlos H. Lozano was born in South Colombia. He graduated from Universidad Autonoma of Cali where
he studied Social-Journalism Communication (1988-1993). For his graduate thesis, he wrote an
analysis of the composition and content of the press photography. His first jobs as press photographer
we're in the Nineties working for locals’ newspapers in Colombia. He begins working with EL TIEMPO
newspaper (1993-97), where he works daily registering the anxious informed life of Colombia, beginning
a long cycle of documentary photography and denunciation.
He moves to Ecuador in 1997 to work at EXPRESO Newspaper in Guayaquil as a Photo Editor. He
returns to Colombia in 1999 to work in EL ESPECTADOR Newspaper as a Photo Editor. He returns to
Colombia and then moved to the United States where he continues his trajectory as press photographer for EL
NUEVO DIA Newspaper in Orlando in Florida, (2003-2006) and in Austin, Texas, he was a
contributing journalist for regional newspaper until 2015.
In the United States, he received eight José Martí Awards for his work, through the National
Association of Hispanic Publications (NAHP). Five Gold Awards, in photographic community and
special report, respectively. Two silver prizes, (in photography and another special report) and a bronze
prize in cultural photography.
Carlos H. has received several recognitions in Colombia for his work as a photographer. In 1994 in the city
of Cali, it is granted to him, through Prize Bonilla Aragon, a special mention in photography and the following
year a mention of honor by his photographic work. In the same year he receives recognition of the Pontifical
University Bolivariana by the series “Havana in Cuba”, registered in his travel to the Caribbean Island. The
Colombian organization of the National Prize of Simon Bolivar Journalism nominated him to Bolivar as best
photography during the years 1995 and 1996.
